Job description:
We are creating an online tool for business owners to manage and organize their paperwork and records. Our goal is to help small business owners to be more efficient and effective - freeing up their time and reducing their manpower costs.
The successful applicant will be part of a two man team and will work with the team leader in completing the software, helping it through beta testing and bringing it to market.
Our management style favors those who are self directed and goal oriented. We believe that we are all responsible adults and when someone says that they will do something it will be done. But if it can't be done then we are responsible enough to ask questions or ask for help.
Skills/knowledge base that a successful applicant should have:
Critical:
* Object-Oriented Development Experience
* Version Control: Git
* Ruby on Rails experience
Very Helpful:
* "Full-stack" development experience
* Hosting: Heroku with Amazon S3 storage fwe have a strong preference for anyone with experience in deploying to Heroku and S3)
Nice to have:
* Database: PostgreSQL
* Experience with Devise user setup
* Experience with OCR
Worthy of note - These technologies are not optimized for development work to be performed on Windows. The ideal candidate should be prepared to provide their own Mac or Linux development workstation.
We are hoping that the initial phase of going through beta and getting to market in 30-45 days. The project has already been started and substantially worked but we need help in getting to completion due to other time commitments. However, as we are new to the software development game, we are also looking for someone who can make suggestions for better, faster, and more efficient ways of creating the product to save time and maximize customer satisfaction.
Although we all work remotely, we emphasize regular communications between all team members.

Hi. When I read about this job, I felt very excited to be a part of your team/project and share my great experience in software development.
I worked as a singular developer/QA/pm in one person and as a team member in big projects with 25 developers.

I know thoroughly how to start, develop and launch websites and desktop and mobile applications.

Everything you mentioned above I have been using for more than five years:

  • I designed and developed DB using MSSQL, Postgre, MySQL, and Oracle more than 100 referenced tables per DB;
  • Ruby, PHP, and C# - these last used languages in e-Commerce and collaborative websites and desktop apps;
  • I like your choice of Heroku. Also, I worked with Google and Microsoft Azure;
  • I work on MAC and have the experience to set up RedHat and Ubuntu for Apache and TomCat hosting websites.

In the beginning, I would recommend creating a simple, functional spec with quick UX mockups and then designing a DB model (Erwin is the best tool to do this). Then we can make a list of short phases and timelines. Finally, I can share project documentation via web Git.

As you work remotely, the best option is to use Google Docs for simple QA tracking and Trello for task management. However, if you have a budget, I would recommend using Fogbugz. I have done way for many years with different teams and know how to organize everything.

I worked remotely as a developer and PM, so I know how to do this effectively. As PM, I continuously have updated spec, list of tasks, and last QA reports so when I make a call, I know what should be discussed and what is priority #1.

As you need to launch this project in a short period, I can work with more than 40hr/w. Therefore, I confirm that if you hire me, I can tackle this project on time and with high quality. This is because I never give up and do my best.

My rate is $65/h, which is more than you expected, but I am looking for long-term cooperation and can decrease it to $45/h for the first phase so you can evaluate my work and not lose money.

I like this project that can do short UX mockups for free during the next two days if you contact me.

I am waiting to hear from you.
Sincere, James Johnson (German, UTC+3)
